Odisha Introduces AI Course for Apprenticeship Students

New AI Course for Odisha Apprenticeship Students

Odisha will introduce an ‘AI for All’ course for students participating in the Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme (AEDP) starting in the 2026-27 academic session. This replaces the previously offered ‘Good Citizenship’ course, according to an official statement released on Thursday.

Course Details and Objectives

The course aims to provide students with foundational knowledge and practical skills in artificial intelligence. The goal is to enhance their employability and prepare them for apprenticeships within various industries. According to the official, the curriculum will be similar to a ‘Skill Enhancement Course (SEC)’ already offered to non-AEDP students in the second semester.

Expansion of the AEDP Program

The Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme (AEDP) is expanding significantly. In 2025-26, it was offered at 30 institutions covering two subjects. By 2026-27, the program will encompass 81 institutions, offering education across 11 subjects. Students will complete two years of academic study alongside a one-year apprenticeship training period, during which they will receive a stipend.

Implementation and Directives

Director of Higher Education Kali Prasanna Mahapatra has instructed registrars and principals of concerned institutions to make the necessary arrangements for the course’s implementation. The course is scheduled to be integrated during the current academic session.

Alignment with Industry Needs

This initiative is intended to integrate emerging technologies into undergraduate education and align student learning with evolving industry requirements. The introduction of the AI course reflects a broader effort to bridge the gap between academic study and practical workplace skills.

Related Developments

Recent developments include the CBSE revising its Class 9 curriculum, dropping CT and AI modules for the current academic batch. The NEET SS Exam 2026 registration is currently open at natboard.edu.in.
