Far Eastern University (FEU) Manila Completes Transition to 100% Renewable Electricity
Far Eastern University (FEU) Manila has completed its transition to renewable electricity across all eligible accounts at its main campus. The milestone was achieved after integrating the university gymnasium into its clean energy supply network.
Implementation Through Green Energy Option Program
The transition was implemented through the Department of Energy’s Green Energy Option Program (GEOP). This government initiative allows qualified electricity consumers to select renewable energy sources.
Expanded Coverage
Classrooms, science laboratories, libraries, administrative offices, student centers, and the gymnasium are now supplied entirely with clean electricity under the program.
Progress Towards Sustainability Goals
As of April 2025, renewable sources were supplying more than 98% of the total electricity requirements across the FEU Group. FEU Alabang reached 100% renewable electricity consumption in December 2024, four years ahead of its original target.
Transition History
FEU began its transition to cleaner electricity in 2017 through the Retail Competition and Open Access Program. The university gradually expanded its renewable energy procurement over the following years, combining external contracts with on-site solar power generation.
Campus Solar Installations
Solar panels have been installed across several FEU campuses, including FEU Roosevelt Rodriguez, FEU Roosevelt Marikina, and FEU Cavite.
Financial Commitment
Rosanna Salcedo, chief financial officer of FEU, stated that completing the transition reflects years of planning, investment, and commitment to environmental responsibility. Sustainability is incorporated into daily operations.
Combined Approach
FEU’s strategy combines green electricity contracts with on-site solar installations to manage energy requirements effectively.
