AP Minister Helps Girl Resume School After Social Media Plea

Background of the Case

A Class X student, G Sumanvi, from Kondapuram, Nellore, discontinued her studies at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) and moved to Hyderabad to live with her father. She sought assistance through social media, specifically Twitter, expressing her desire to return to school.

Government Intervention

Education Minister Nara Lokesh responded to her appeal and directed Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla and Superintendent of Police Ajitha Vejendla to investigate and facilitate her return. The Collector initiated efforts to contact the student’s father and grandmother, and the owner of the shop where he worked, without success.

Return to School

A joint team from the Revenue, Police, and Education departments traveled to Hyderabad. They counselled the student’s father, emphasizing the importance of education, and persuaded him to allow his daughter to resume her studies. The team subsequently brought Sumanvi back to Kondapuram and re-admitted her to the KGBV school on November 5th.

Minister’s Response

Sumanvi expressed gratitude to Minister Lokesh for his prompt action. Minister Lokesh congratulated Collector Shukla, SP Vejendla, and the Nellore district administration for their coordinated response. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring every child’s right to education.

Ongoing Support

The Minister instructed the district administration to maintain regular contact with the girl and her family, monitor her progress, and provide necessary assistance. He emphasized the need for continued follow-up to prevent similar issues in the future. The officials involved thanked the Minister for his guidance and assured continued support.
