Ludhiana Teacher Loses Rs 45 Lakh to Wife’s Scheme

A private schoolteacher in Ludhiana, Kuljeet Singh, has reported his wife, Hardeep Kaur, and her parents for allegedly defrauding him of approximately Rs 45 lakh. The incident occurred between August 2025 and February 2026.

The Allegations

According to Kuljeet Singh, Hardeep Kaur convinced him to marry her with the promise of sponsorship for permanent residency (PR) in Canada. The couple initially met on August 3, 2025, in Jagraon.

Initial Demands and Expenses

The bride’s family reportedly demanded Rs 10 lakh for the wedding and insisted that Kuljeet’s side cover all wedding expenses. They initially requested Rs 20 lakh. Kuljeet claims that subsequent expenses, including household items and the bride’s shopping, amounted to approximately Rs 2.5 lakh.

Family’s Claims and Subsequent Demands

Upon Hardeep Kaur’s return to Canada on February 26, 2026, the family provided a flight ticket and 5,000 Canadian dollars. They also reportedly took a gold ring and a set gifted by Kuljeet’s side. However, Hardeep Kaur then demanded an additional Rs 10 lakh in Canada to file the sponsorship papers.

Refusal to Sponsor and Threat of Divorce

Kuljeet Singh stated that he was unable to meet this additional demand due to the already incurred expenses. As a result, Hardeep Kaur refused to sponsor him for PR and threatened divorce.

Police Action

The police have registered a case against Hardeep Kaur and her parents, Balvir Singh and Paramjit Kaur, in connection with the matter.
